Chairman's Message

Mayor StewartAs the mayor of a small town, I understand the unique issues that we all face. I also understand that small towns and cities are essential to the fabric of American life — we are mini-economic engines, we provide a standard of living that so many people desire, and we represent the best of the American past, present and future.

The United States League of Small Town Mayors was founded with the notion that together we can help make our cities and towns stronger and more vibrant. Through sharing and collaboration we can overcome the unique obstacles we face, and forge ahead into a bright new future. We understand that the greatness of this nation has been grounded in her small towns, and we are pledged to committing the resources necessary to preserving our heritage and thriving in the future.

I invite you to become a member of the United States League of Small Town Mayors.

Sincerely,
Belinda Stewart, Chairperson
Mayor, Village of Walthall, MS

Issues

The US League of Small Town Mayors official website will launch in summer 2009. In addition to providing a "cost effective" collaboration and information sharing platform, the League will be able to assist with key issues faced by small town mayors, including:

  • Funding opportunities/grant possibilities (federal and private)
  • Identifying effective and affordable technology solutions
  • Educational opportunities/Legislative issues
  • Advocacy with impending development from large companies
  • Economic development and rural entrepreneurship models
  • Designing, planning, how to improve PLACE
  • Tourism and cultural development
